Welcome To Our Crazy Life

We are the Colls and this is about our life with our triplets. My name is Sandi and my husband's name is Kevin. We got married on Feb. 7, 2004 and instantly started trying to have a baby. 5 years, many tears and loads of help later we found out we were having not one, not two, but three babies!

Braedan, Teagan and Sean bounced into our lives on Nov. 12, 2008 and everything has been turned upside down, flipped sideways and scattered about since then. I’m not going to sugar coat it....it wasn’t easy in the beginning. The NICU, late nights, screaming babies, being thousands of miles from our families because we were stationed in Hawaii, exhaustion and then Kevin deploying to Afghanistan for 6 months the day the kids turned 6 months old......not fun.

But now they are getting older and Kevin has been medically separated from the Marine Corps and we've moved to NY to be closer to family. It's great to finally have family around...... especially now that we've hit the TERRIBLE TWOS triple time!

Even though we are close to family now, we are still learning to survive life with triplets.

And so it begins....the terrible two's!

I thought it was a myth that once a child turns two they instantly become a little demon. I no longer believe that. I know now that this is a true fact. My once sweet, loving children now throw temper tantrums, fight like cats and dogs and love to yell "NO" at us. As much as I love how independent they have recently become (playing alone, learning how to do things on their own) I do miss the peace that once filled their little bodies. It seems like a never ending baby war right now and I'm over it. Time out went from an occasional thing to an every hour thing. Seriously. All we have to do is tell them to take a break and they know which corner to go sit in. With that all said, I won't forget that they do still have a few compassionate streaks in them. For instance, when someone is sent to time out, it is inevitable that one of the other kiddos will come around with a sippy cup and snack for the offender. Ahhh, siblings.

So this week we began the first week of being 2 years old. Teagan is starting the transition to the older toddler class already. She has a large vocabulary and is able to form pretty good sentences right now. She also follows directions really well too. The director approached us a month ago about moving her ahead of the boys and at first we didn't like the idea. The closer we got to 2 though, it became apparent that she really was ready. Now we have the decision to make about the boys. Will they go to Teagan's class when they are ready to move or will they go to a separate room. We've opted for them to be separated. Some people might think this is odd, but Teagan is the dominate triplet. It is safe to call her the "ring leader" of the bunch. We think the boys might do better without her there to boss them around!

The kids had fun playing with some of their presents from their birthday this week. Teagan had quite a few tea parties with Kevin. She actually set the cups  and bowls up herself and served her daddy. She made sure his drink was refilled after every sip and that he had a little bowl of snacks to go along with it!

We also played with play doh for the first time at the house. Teagan decided that it was fun to lick it, but the boys played with it correctly. Braedan even used cookie cutters with it!

They had a lot of fun playing with the tattoos, tool set, pirate ship, castle, blocks and all the other cool things they received too!

This week they had picture day at their little daycare. We didn't find out until the last minute, but we were happy to find that they still fit their outfits that they wore when Kevin came home from Afghanistan. Teagan looked super cute in her dress and the boys looked handsome in their polo shirts. When it came time for the actual pictures though, the boys were not willing to participate. We laughed so hard when it was Braedan's turn....he kept scowling at the camera. The poor photographer did all she could to get him to laugh, but he was not having it. Sean didn't smile much either, but at least he didn't look mad! Teagan on the other hand LOVED the attention and smiled for every picture! We should get the proofs in December. If any of them turned out we'll be sure to order them and post them!

Teagan all dressed and ready to head to school for picture day

The big thing this week was the 2 year check up yesterday. We loaded up and headed to Tripler to visit Dr. Vann. It was so nice going in on a Saturday. Nobody was there! Seriously, not one person stopped us to ask if they were triplets and we were even able to let the kids roam around without their strollers!

All three of the kids are doing well. They have all reached their 2 year milestones and have already ventured into some of the expectations for 3 year olds. We were surprised to learn that all three of them are small for their age though. We knew Sean was tiny, but both Braeadan and Teagan are only in the 8% of kids their age! Of course Sean is still off the charts at 0%.

All of Sean's test results have come back normal so they ordered more tests for different things. For now though we are going to try to add as many calories to each of his meals and snacks as we can. The Dr's all seem to think that since he's so hyper and active that maybe he's just burning too many calories throughout the day. The new theory is that if we can possibly double the amount of calories he eats in a day, then there is a chance he could hit a growth spurt and turn out as big as Braedan!

For now though here are their stats:

Braedan:
Weight: 24.25 lbs   Length: 33.35 inches   Shirts: 18 months   Pants: 12 months   Shoes: 5

Teagan:
Weight: 23.15 lbs   Length: 31.89 inches   Shirts: 18 months   Pants: 12/18 months Shoes: 5

Sean:
Weight: 21 lbs        Length: 31 inches        Shirts: 12 months   Pants: 9 months   Shoes: 5

Heading into Tripler for our 2yr appointment
